Meet Dr. Alexandra Larks, Ph.D.

I am a Michigan native but I made a home for myself in Dallas, after moving across the country to earn my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Texas Woman’s University. Previously, I earned a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Michigan University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Political Science. While pursuing my undergraduate degree, I developed a greater understanding of the systems of inequity that keep individuals from accessing mental health care. I decided to pursue a career in psychology to aid in reducing mental health stigma, as well as to help others find self-empowerment, authenticity, and meaning in life.

A feminist-multicultural perspective is the foundation for my work with all clients. You will see this lens in my approach as I strive to collaborate with you, to honor you as your own expert on your life and your needs, and as we affirm your unique identities. Additionally, as an integrative psychotherapist I strive to emphasize your individual strengths and work within your unique context. I can help you examine how early relationships and significant experiences are still impacting you today and collaborate with you to assemble the tools that can help you find freedom. Overall, I practice unconditional acceptance as I help you develop insight into your experiences and encourage you to embrace your power in order to make positive changes.

I have experience with and a passion for working with LGBTQIA+ individuals. I see a calling as a cis person to ensure that I am providing affirming care and creating a space in therapy where trans and non-binary individuals can feel safe and seen. In addition to general support and advocacy through therapy, I am also able to provide letters of support for gender-affirming care.

Away from work, you can find me recharging by hiking, baking, watching reality TV and horror movies, playing video games, and spending time with my family and rescue pets.

“It's so dark right now, I can't see any light around me.

That's because the light is coming from you. You can't see it but everyone else can.”
